Where the Volvo XC90 has three engine options, the Audi Q7 has just two. The base choice is also a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, making 248 horsepower. The upgraded powertrain includes a 3.0-liter V6 engine, which produces 335 horsepower. These engines are fine by themselves, but the Audi Q7 does not offer a plug-in hybrid variant – unlike the Volvo XC90. And the most fuel-efficient MPG rating you'll find for the Q7 is with the 2.0-liter powertrain, offering 22 MPG (Combined)2 – acceptable for a three-row SUV, but not great compared to the Volvo XC90.

When you compare Volvo XC90 and Audi Q7 interiors, the more inspired option stands out quickly. Both feature sleek designs and nice materials, but the Volvo SUV is a cut above. The Scandinavian design ethos that people around the world have fallen in love with combines reliability with refined style.
The interior of the Volvo XC90 is luxurious. Depending on the trim you select, you'll be treated to Nappa leather upholstery and luxury features like front seat ventilation. The Harman Kardon® premium sound system will envelop you and your riders alike in sonorous sound, recreating the feeling you had at the last concert you attended.
The Audi Q7 does have a nice interior, but it does not hold up when we compare the Volvo XC90 vs. Audi Q7. The former has more upscale materials, a better design, and more standard and available comfort features. The Audi SUV tries to catch up with available Valcona leather seating, heated rear seats, and a Bang & Olufsen® premium sound system, but it can never quite conquer the cozy cabin of the Volvo XC90.

Still, others, including Oncoming Lane Mitigation, are unavailable or accessible on higher-end, much more expensive trims.
The Volvo XC90 also has more sophisticated infotainment technology than the Audi Q7. The Volvo SUV utilizes a nine-inch center console for infotainment and a 12-inch customizable multi-information display for warnings and navigation. The Audi virtual cockpit covers your dashboard in screens – including one tucked away from the road, right above the center console. It is not exactly easy to see while driving, making the cabin of the Q7 feel inconvenient for all but the most technophilic drivers.
Audi Q7 vs. Volvo XC90 Cargo Space and Dimensions
The last thing we will examine today is the dimensions of the Volvo XC90 vs. Audi Q7. Once again, the Volvo XC90 showcases its versatility. With both rear rows folded down, the Audi Q7 gets 69.6 cubic feet while the Volvo XC90 has up to 85.7 cubic feet, a difference of over 16 cubic feet.
The Q7 has similar passenger space, at least. With a front legroom of 41.7 inches and second-row legroom of 38.8 inches, according to Car and Driver,3 the Q7 adds around an inch to your room. However, if you want to sit an adult comfortably in the third row, 29.2 inches of legroom in a Q7 won't cut it.3 The 31.9 inches in a Volvo XC90 might fit them a bit better.
